Chapter 5 is the quiet second-biggest chapter on the paper. Eight of the 45 questions come from here, but they are worth 16 of the 78 points — two K2, four K3 and two K4 — so it outweighs Chapters 1, 2 and 4 combined on marks. The syllabus gives it 225 training minutes. Candidates who plan their revision by question count rather than by points routinely arrive at this chapter underprepared.
The subject is preventing defects rather than finding them, grouped into three practices: stopping a defect being introduced, stopping it leaking into later phases, and stopping it recurring. The measurement vocabulary matters here — defect removal efficiency, phase containment effectiveness, cost of quality, defect detection percentage. Modelling earns its own treatment because it does three things at once: it exposes defects in specifications, exposes defects in the models themselves, and feeds model-based testing under ISO/IEC 20246. Five review techniques are examinable by name: ad hoc, checklist-based, scenario-based, role-based and perspective-based reading.
The analytical half is where the K3 and K4 marks sit. Result analysis covers defect cluster analysis, structural coverage analysis, test gap analysis and defect arrival patterns including the Rayleigh model, with the standing caution that a failed test is not automatically a defect. Root cause analysis covers defect taxonomies, five whys, cause-effect diagrams and Pareto analysis, and the classification schemes are ODC, IEEE 1044 (2009), severity-based classification and FURPS.
