Managing the Team is the shortest chapter on the paper: 9 of the 50 questions, 15 of the 88 points and 225 recommended study minutes, spread over two sections, the test team and stakeholder relationships. It is also the cheapest chapter to secure, because five of its nine questions are straight K2 recall.
That recall half is a set of named models, and the exam expects the names to be attached to the right ideas. Four areas of competence: professional, methodological, social and personal, with ISTQB certification developing the professional one. Tuckman's Forming, Storming, Norming, Performing and Adjourning. Belbin's team roles alongside DISG and PCM as role models, and a skills matrix as the assessment instrument. Herzberg's split between motivators such as recognition, responsibility and advancement, and hygiene factors such as remuneration, personnel policy and working conditions. Development routes run through training and education, self-study, peer learning, mentoring and coaching, and training on the job.
The two weighted objectives repay the extra effort. TM-3.1.2, at K4, maps skills onto the activities of the test process and onto context drivers such as the domain, the architecture and technologies in use, and the chosen life cycle. TM-3.2.2, at K3, is the cost-of-quality pair: Feigenbaum's four categories of defect prevention, appraisal, internal failure and external failure costs, and the printed formula where average savings per defect equals average external failure costs minus the sum of average appraisal and average internal failure costs.
